Discovery Cross Country Set to Light Up Eldoret This weekend
The Nike Discovery Kenya Cross Country is set to make a return for its 35th edition on January 25, 2026, with Eldoret Sports Club once again hosting one of the country’s most respected athletics events.
Widely regarded as a launchpad for Kenya’s future stars, the Discovery Cross Country has built a strong reputation over the years as a key platform for spotting and developing talent. The upcoming edition is expected to draw large numbers of competitors across all age groups, reaffirming its place in Kenya’s athletics calendar.
The event offers racing opportunities for athletes from as young as five years old, underscoring its focus on grassroots development. Children aged 5–7 will compete over 500m, those aged 8–10 will tackle a 1km course, while 11–13-year-olds will race over 2km, with boys and girls competing separately.
Attention will also be on the elite categories, where Under-20 women will contest a 6km race, Under-20 men an 8km event, senior women 8km, and senior men the challenging 10km course that has tested many top runners over the years.
Race Director David Letting confirmed that preparations are well advanced, emphasizing the event’s long-standing contribution to nurturing young athletes.
“The Discovery Cross Country has always played a unique role in identifying and developing talent at an early stage,” said Letting, noting that the race fits perfectly into the Athletics Kenya competition structure.
He added that the timing of the event is ideal as athletes begin preparations for the upcoming track season.
