Omanyala Breaks Silence With Bold Promise About His Record

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has issued a bold vow that will excite sprint fans across the continent, he believes he still has what it takes to break the African 100m record and he insists no one else will do it before him.

The Kenyan sprint king, who holds the African 100m record of 9.77 seconds, says the historic mark is not safe and remains there for him to shatter again. Omanyala set the record at the 2021 Kip Keino Classic, where he finished second but etched his name into African athletics history with the fastest time ever run by an African.

Despite several elite sprinters chasing the mark since then, the record has stood firm. South Africa’s Akani Simbine came closest in 2024, stopping the clock at 9.82 seconds, but still fell short of Omanyala’s blistering time. With the continental benchmark still under his name, the 30-year-old is confident that he remains the man capable of lowering it further.

“I still hold the African record, and I believe I am still the one to break it,” Omanyala said in an interview with TV47. “Others have tried, but they have not been able to break it. It might be this season or next season, but I believe I am the one to break that record.”

Omanyala is heading into the 2026 season with renewed hunger, seeking redemption after a frustrating 2025 campaign. Last season proved challenging for the Kenyan star, as he failed to dip below the coveted 10-second barrier in the 100m.

However, the African record holder remains undeterred. With his sights firmly set on rewriting his own record, Omanyala is determined to remind the world why he is Africa’s fastest man.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on the Kenyan speedster to see whether his bold promise turns into another historic sprint moment on the track.
