Two-Time Olympic Champion Eliud Kipchoge Takes on New Olympic Role
Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge is returning to Olympic Games in a new role.
Kipchoge graced the 2024 Olympic games in Paris where he failed
to finish the marathon.
On February 6, 2026, Kipchoge will be among the six flag
bearers for the Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter
Games in Italy. The games will be held in the Italian city from February6-22.
Kipchoge, who claimed back-to-back marathon gold medals at
the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has appeared five times in Olympic games
where first got a bronze medal in 5000m in Athens and a silver at the 2008
Beijing Olympics.
The former marathon record holder will be joined by
Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, a six-time Olympic medalist, who won gold in
2020 and 2024, Pita Taufatofua from Tonga, a taekwondo cross-country skier and
boxer Cindy Ngamba, who became the first-ever Refugee Olympics team athlete to
win a medal.
Others are Italian skater Martina Valcepina, a four-time
Olympian as well as compatriot Franco Nones, a skier, the cross-country skiing
champion at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics.
